Villa Vrede in Iverness-shire

Dream home in the Scottish Highlands

The pittoresk site in the Scottish Highlands was the perfect spot for Matt and Leona Braund to create their dream home. With a strikingly beautiful view, their home became a beautiful union with nature. They called their new house “Villa Vrede” after the afrikaans word for “peace”.

Villa Vrede blends in nicely with its surroundings due to its extensive scotch-larch cladding.

– We had a clear picture of how we wanted the house to be built and which materials we wanted to use. Our idea was to keep everything simple but at the same time create a wow factor, says Leona Braund.

For the treatment of the cladding, Braunds has used SiOO:X wood protection for even weathering and protection from the elements.

– We have actually treated all wooden surfaces ourselves, says Leona. The Scottish larch facade, the Douglas fir details, the shed which became an office, the wooden deck and the surrounding fence. Even the garden bench has received a treatment of SiOO:X Wood and Surface protection!

Today SiOO:X is offered pre-treated on high-quality cladding products, but at the time Villa Vrede was built, the silicon technology was still a pioneer in wood protection. Thankfully, the family in Iverness-shire was convinced of the newcomer, back in 2014.

– The main reason to try our SiOO:X was  the fact that silicon wood protection would last a long time.  But we also wanted to maintain the natural appearance of the Scotch larch, Leona points out.

SiOO:X  creates  an uniform appearence  and makes both cladding and decking pleasant to the touch.
