SiOO:X Impregnation is a two component system consisting of Premium Wood Protector and Premium Surface Protector prepared for factory application. The components are supplied in 10, 20, 25 and 60 litre containers and 600 and 1000 litre IBC’s. Smaller containers in 1, 3 and 5 litre sizes are available for hand application for smaller areas and maintenance and end grain sealing purposes. Sample 250 ml bottles are available.

The two components are designed to be used together and they interact to create a unique patented effect to protect wood.

SiOO:X Wood Protector is the first component – Step 1 – in the system and is applied twice.

SiOO:X Wood Protector contains silicon, potassium and natural particles of wood and plants. it is strongly alkaline with a pH value of 10.8. By means of the specifically prepared components SiOO:X Wood Protector penetrates wood very easily. It  opens up the wood structure and penetrates the microstructure of the wood fibres. It does it so well that it can be used on practically all types of wood.

When SiOO:X Wood Protector dries silica crystals are formed in a network. That is when the effect of SiOO:X shows – the silver grey lustrous appearance develops over time.

When SiOO:X crystallises within or at the wood fibre, it is reinforced and cemented. It is an effortless and unique process that does not damage the fibres. Thus a layer of silica is created in the wood reinforcing it and making it more durable. At the same time, without tightening the wood, this layer creates a barrier. The silica layer also reflects heat.

SiOO:X Surface Protector is the second component – Step 2 – and consists of silicon in the shape of environmentally friendly and water based silane. The formula is designed to combine SiOO:X Wood Protector and SiOO:X Surface Protector, but SiOO:X Surface Protector can also be used as a separate product on mineral surfaces and wood as a water repellent.

The two products complement each other and interact. In doing so major synergy effects are created. SiOO:X Wood Protector opens up the wood for the SiOO:X Surface Protector to penetrate more effectively. SiOO:X Surface Protector in turn fixes the SiOO:X Wood Protector in the wood chemically as well as physically. Thus it has a double function as an extra fixing agent and a water repellent. SiOO:X Surface Protector is also open for vapour diffusion (the wood can breathe) but creates an optimal environment for the two products in co-operation to effectively protect the wood.

Sioo also provides pigmented wood solutions. The colours you can choose from are light-grey and mid-grey. The treatment instructions are the same as for the standard SiOO:X product. They are called SiOO:X Premium Light-grey Wood Protector and SiOO:X Premium Mid-grey Wood Protector. The SIOO:X Premium Surface Protector is also pigmented and is applied as Step 2.

Some customers wish to see the SiOO:X: grey colour from the point of application and the pigmented products meet this need. All of the attributes and performance of the standard impregnation system are delivered and the same curing process operates giving long life protection.  The pigmented products are supplied by special order from our approved distributors for factory application onto sawn timber.

It is vital to treat all cut ends with an end grain sealer to prevent moisture ingress into treated timber members. All factory treated SiOO:X timber will be treated on the surface and on the edges. Any end cuts in cladding boards, deck boards and other trim need to be sealed at installation.

The prime reason for sealing wood end grain is because when exposed it absorbs moisture up to 250 times more rapidly than other wood surfaces. Unprotected end grain can lead to interior rot and discolouration adjacent to the cut end.

End-grain is particularly vulnerable to moisture, and early failure is often seen at joints and corners where the end- grain is exposed.

Timber’s natural movement means that joints tend to open up over time. When a gap opens, exposed and unprotected end-grain will absorb moisture much faster than the surrounding timber.The SiOO:X End Grain Sealer comprising Wood Protector and Surface Protector stages is easy to hand brush apply and brings the advantage of the proven penetrative SiOO:X long life silicon protection. It is entirely compatible with the SiOO:X Premium Wood Protection system.

The application is one coat of the End Grain Sealer Wood Protector and one coat of the End Grain Sealer Surface Protector. The SiOO:X End Grain Sealer is available in 1 litre and 5 litre containers.
